Headache Treatment in Scottsdale
Did you know that approximately 50 percent of the world’s population suffers from headache disorders? There are many types of headaches, with one of the most common being tension headaches. This simply means physical tension causes the headache. Your neck and shoulders get tense, and then that radiates up into the muscles in your head.
Considered a moderate or severe headache, a migraine can start the same way. This type of headache is different, however, as it may last longer and include changes in vision, nausea and light sensitivity and fatigue. Some people have an aura where they will see colors or smell something. With migraines, medication rarely helps. Sufferers usually have to retreat to a dark room and rest until it passes.
What Are Some Causes?
There are many causes of tension and migraine headaches. Some of the most common are poor ergonomics, overuse injuries and eye strain. Other common, but less thought of causes are food sensitivity, nutrient deficiencies, poor blood sugar handling (hypo or hyper glycemia), and chemical sensitivity. For women, hormonal changes related to their menstrual cycle may cause their head pain.

Other Natural Ways to Decrease Discomfort
Evaluate your ergonomics
If you’re getting headaches regularly, it’s a good idea to look at your ergonomics and see if there’s something about your workstation that causes you to be an in uncomfortable position for long periods of time. Having to look down, for example can put a lot of strain on your neck and shoulder muscles and cause tension headaches. This additional strain on your neck and shoulders can cause headaches. Even eye strain can trigger head pain. Also, sitting in one position for too long and not taking breaks can be a cause.
Move more
Did you know that sometimes a person’s hips and sacrum get stuck, which can cause a headache? So it’s a good idea to walk around and do full body stretches, such as a cat-cow yoga pose.
Check your nutrition
A deficiency in certain nutrients can also cause headaches. If you don’t maintain the proper electrolyte balance, it can lead to tight muscles and/or fluctuating blood pressure that can cause headaches. Blood sugar imbalance (metabolic syndrome) can also lead to headaches. If you’re not eating a low glycemic diet, and you eat foods that spike your blood sugar, that can leave you with a headache when your blood sugar drops again. We can help you find an eating plan and supplement program that will help you control your blood sugar and reduce headaches.
Stay hydrated
A common cause of headaches is dehydration. If you get dehydrated, your electrolytes get imbalanced, which can cause head pain. Be sure to drink plenty of water every day and account for your activities to ensure you maintain electrolyte balance.
